Patek Philippe Reference 3800/1
The Nautilus was introduced to the Patek Philippe collection in 1976. Initially, this iconic sports watch, designed by the legendary Gerald Genta, wasn't much of a success sales-wise. The $3,100 "exorbitant" retail price was frowned upon, and the fact that the Nautilus was produced mainly in steel didn't help either. Little did people realize how popular the Nautilus would later become amongst the world's foremost collectors.
This example is the Jumbo Nautilus' (ref. 3700) younger sibling: The Nautilus ref. 3800. Aside from a slightly smaller case diameter, the 3800 is mechanically and aesthetically similar to the 3700. I wouldn't usually feature a 3800, yet one cased in yellow gold with diamond markers is quite an exceptional find. Generally speaking, I'm a huge fan of integrated bracelets; thus, I especially favor this Nautilus.
Estimate: $15,000-$25,000

The 3940 is definitely one of my favorite Pateks. It's also an extraordinary perpetual calendar at a price that is totally unrivaled. Furthermore, it has been Thierry Stern's (President of Patek Philippe) daily watch for decades. The distinguishing aspect of this 3940 is the champagne-toned dial. And, although I commonly do not find champagne dials to be attractive, I quite like this one.
Estimate: $22,000-$32,000

'>Patek Philippe has dominated the watch world for years. This independent watchmaking powerhouse has set record after record with its ultra-complicated timepieces, fetching hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars at auctions globally. Christie's acclaimed watch department will auction-off some very impressive Pateks later this week in Dubai; however, these watches aren't as costly as their big-ticket, ticking counterparts. I have selected two Pateks--in particular--to discuss, both with great importance and estimates averaging less than $30,000.
